Turn Short-Term Customers into Loyal Long-Term Customers with Digital Marketing (3 of 11)


Last time, I outlined the digital marketing techniques that form the foundation for any effective online business. All of those techniques can convert short-term visitors and customers into loyal long-term clients and even brand advocates.


Get Them to Come

Every site and blog struggle to get traffic. Content on a website or blog will help lure them. So too will video, social networking and search engine marketing and pay per click.


Get Them to Browse

If you do get a visitor, make sure everything is in place to get to want them to stay and get to know you better. You need a professional-looking site, great content and images, videos, and more.

The content should encourage them to browse more. Also include an email capture box with the incentive of a free special report or e-course. In this way, visitors won’t just visit once and click away forever. They can get to know you and you can build relationships with them.


Keep Them Coming Back



Your email marketing and social media efforts will help keep them coming back to your site. After the ecourse is over, for example, continue to mail them your e-newsletter. Notify subscribers and followers of new content and products. Encourage them to share the information with others who might be interested.



Get Them to Buy

When you are creating content, think information plus promotion. If you’ve ever seen an infomercial on TV, you know the ultimate goal is to get people to buy.

The companies inform and entertain as they sell. They identify a problem and provide a solution for it that you can buy at a low price. The solution is guaranteed to work or your money back. This low-risk offer means most people who need the item will usually be willing to buy.



Offer Real Solutions with Real Value

Investigate similar products and services your competitors are offering. How can you make yours better? Are your prices in line with what the market will tolerate? Does yours really work? Sell quality products and they will keep coming back for more.



Get Them to Buy Again


Once a person has purchased a product, use your email marketing automation tools to put them onto a new list – your customer list for that product. Now you can offer them “insider information,” special deals and more.

Personalize the promotions instead of lumping everyone onto one list. We all love to feel special and everyone loves a bargain. Special deals will help your subscribers with both.



Treat Your Customers Like the Valuable Business Assets They Are

Many businesses make the mistake of chasing new customers to the point of neglecting their existing ones. Tried and tested marketing wisdom found to be true is the 80/20 rule – that is, 20% of your customers will be responsible for 80% of your sales.



Offer Real Value Worth Recommending

I’ve also discovered that one happy customer will tell one other person, but one unhappy customer will tell seven others about their “terrible experience.”


In these days of social media, this can be a disaster waiting to happen. On the other hand, if you don’t have a social media presence online, you can’t control the conversation to try to put out any fires that might start to blaze.


Create a product page and allow user-generated content, but be sure to monitor it. Maintain a professional stance at all times. If you seem like a company easy to do business with, you’ll be amazed at how many short-term customers can become enthusiastic long-term clients.

Mastering Digital Marketing Basics

In this first post, I want to review some digital marketing basics. If you are just starting your own online business, you can use this information as a checklist of what you should start working on in order to build your brand and increase your profits.

If you have been in business for a while but are not getting the kind of results you hoped for, use this information to evaluate your current digital marketing mix and identify any gaps.

The top digital marketing tools of 2016 are:

1. Content marketing
2. Blogging
3. Video
4. Social media
5. Search engine marketing such as Google AdWords
6. Automation

Let’s look at each of these in turn briefly.



Content Marketing


Content marketing is any item you post online in relation to your business which is designed to drive traffic, increase sales, and/or retain customers. Most content will consist of words on a page.

However, these days, you can market with any form of content, so it is important to vary your offerings on your site or blog.

Blogging, in particular, niche blogging on a certain topic such as golf, dogs, or quilting, will attract a targeted audience interested in what you have to offer. Your written content should be supported by good images – created in-house, professionally generated and shared, or sold through a stock photo site. Video is in high demand online and used to entertain and educate. If you aren’t already marketing on YouTube regularly, put video marketing at the top of your to-do list.

Great images can also be used for infographics and marketing at highly visual social networks such as Pinterest, Facebook and Tumblr, to drive traffic back to your site or show what your products and services are all about.

Make the most of your digital marketing by placing an email address capture box on your landing pages so the visitors to your site will be able to subscribe to your digital newsletter.

Email marketing is ideal for building relationships and makes your content marketing, blogging, and social networking efforts measurable. Don’t just think traffic; think engagement with your content.

To get an even higher subscriber rate, consider creating a valuable special report or a 7-day e-course, one lesson per day or week, to show prospective customers in your niche who you are, what you know, and why you are worth doing business with. Then market the report on the top social media sites that make sense for your niche.

Don’t forget to market your hottest content on niche-related discussion boards, groups and forums, especially places like Facebook groups.


Search Engine Marketing such as AdWords



In order to test your new content or product ideas, consider setting a small budget and using AdWords or other pay-per-click ad services to test the market. Track and test your results, and improve your marketing messages as needed.

If you have a tiny budget or are struggling to make sense of AdWords, try Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. These paid advertising opportunities are less expensive than Google AdWords pay per click, yet much more highly targeted, giving you a better conversion rate.



Process Automation on the Gears.



Automation such as email autoresponders and blog schedulers keep your marketing going even when you are not on your computer. Work smarter, not harder, with the help of schedules and other automation tools.

Here’s A Quick Primer for Forms 1095-A,B,C

As if taxes weren’t confusing enough for the average entrepreneur, along comes a series of new forms to add to the mix.

This year, you may receive one or more forms that provide information about your 2015 health coverage.  These forms are 1095-A, 1095-B and 1095-C. Fortunately, they may not all apply. 🙂

Here is a short video, some quick notes, and a few links to IRS Tips to give you a quick feel for what is going on…regardless of whether you prepare your own return or have someone do it. I prefer to do my own because I really don’t like giving away control over anywhere from 25%-50% of my business (yeah, add up your federal and state taxes, my friend.)

It serves the entrepreneur well to get as informed about taxes as is possible.

As you see from the video, Form 1095-A,  Health Insurance Marketplace Statement, provides you with information about your health care coverage if you or someone in your family enrolled in coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace (Health Exchange) and meet other sundry conditions, including an income limitation.

Form 1095-B is used to report certain information to the IRS and to taxpayers about individuals who are covered by minimum essential coverage and, therefore, are not liable for the individual shared responsibility payment.

Health insurance providers (for example, health insurance companies) send this form to individuals they cover, with information about who was covered and when.

Form 1095-C is filed and furnished to any employee of an ALE ( Applicable large Employer) member who is a full-time employee for one or more months of the calendar. Employers that offer health coverage referred to as “self-insured coverage” send this form to individuals they cover, with information about who was covered and when.

 It seems that the situation can get a bit complicated if you receive either the 1099-A or the 1099-C. Your home office must be as open and conducive to running a virtual corporation as you are. Having a dedicated space for business is imperative, whether it’s an entire room or just the corner of your living room.

If you work outside the home and rent or lease space for your office, you should still apply the following tips for creating a professional atmosphere in your work area.

Noise Pollution: Eliminating the Background Buzz

How fast would you hang up the phone if you called a dentist or a plumber and heard video games and barking dogs in the background? What your clients hear when they call your business plays a large part in their evaluation of your company.

You don’t need to invest in on-hold music to create a professional impression, but you do need to ensure life doesn’t interrupt your business calls.

The best way to do this, of course, is to have a separate room dedicated to office space. Also, make sure your family and any friends that are likely to drop by unannounced know that when you’re in the office, you are working and should not be disturbed.

Talk with them ahead of time to avoid hurt feelings, and let them know the times you will be available for things not related to work.

If you don’t have a dedicated room, there are things you can do to minimize the noise level in a place where other activities are likely to occur. Try to choose a location away from wherever the most household traffic occurs.

If possible, put up folding screens or hang curtains from the ceiling to delineate work space from home space. And if background noise is completely unavoidable unless you’re prepared for a call, set up a professional voicemail service or answering machine and stress on your greeting that calls will be returned promptly. The Importance of Being Earnest—Er, Organized

Because you are entirely responsible for your business, it’s up to you to keep track of things. That means organization is essential.

There is nothing worse than completing a big project, then walking away from your work space and returning to discover you have no idea what you just did with it—and the client expects it in an hour.

Additionally, keeping your work area clean and coordinated saves you a huge amount of time in the long run you’d otherwise spend hunting down misplaced files or phone numbers scribbled on Post-Its.

Like other integral virtual corporation skills, organization is a process that improves with practice. If you make it a habit to keep things straightened up and stored where you can find them, it soon becomes second nature.

It’s a good practice to keep personal items and paperwork out of your business area (but no one would begrudge you an executive desk toy or two!). This also helps to enforce the separation of work and leisure you need to maintain.

A great rule to follow for honing your organizational skills is the One-Time Rule.

This means whenever you pick up a piece of paper, whether it’s a bill, an invoice, a sales letter or something you meant to add to your permanent file system, determine what should be done with it and do it right then. Never pick something up more than once.

The more often you put aside things and tell yourself you’ll get to them later, the bigger your “to-do” piles will become. You can also apply this rule to your e-mail.

Every time you open an e-mail, decide what action needs to be taken with it: reply, delete, or keep for reference. Then do it! This technique will help you avoid ending up with 1,347 messages in your inbox with no idea what you should do with 1,329 of them.

Ever wonder how Darth Vader got so famous and recognized as a man of his word?  Oh sure, I know that you think it was Star Wars but I am sure testimonials had a huge part to play in his fame 🙂

Here is a quick and dirty guide to getting testimonials.


Testimonials are an exceptional selling tool. They tell potential buyers that you’re trustworthy. They tell potential buyers that your product or service fulfills its promise. Testimonials tell potential customers that you have credibility.

And they tell potential customers what they want to hear – that you really can solve their problems.


Testimonials are an effective buying trigger because they offer information about your product or service that you just can’t offer yourself. It’s like a personal recommendation, and it’s worth the effort to get quality testimonials and to use them.


How Do You Get More Testimonials?

It’s quite simple, actually. You ask for them.


Most people are afraid to ask for testimonials. They feel it’s pushy or they fear being rejected. The truth is, most customers are happy to give them; they just don’t think about offering.


Think about when you have a good or bad experience with a company. If you have a bad experience, you want to shout it from the rooftops. You write reviews; you tell your friends and associates. Maybe you even write a complaint to the company.


When you have a good experience, you say thank you. Generally, we don’t talk as much about the good news as we do about the bad news. However, if someone asks us, we’ll go on for hours about our positive experiences.


So in order to get more testimonials you have to ask.


You’ll of course ask all of your happy customers. However, consider also asking experts in your industry to provide a testimonial. Send them a free product or offer a service, then collect the testimonial.


It’ll have more power because it’s coming from someone people like and respect. Can you imagine what a ringing endorsement it would be if Martha Stewart wrote a testimonial for your home organization business?


Be Prepared

Many people just don’t know what to say, so consider being prepared with a pre-written testimonial. If they agree that they stand behind the information, they just need to provide a signature and a link. You can then post the testimonial and consider it valid.


Position Your Testimonials Well

There are some key places to position your testimonials.


One such location is on your sales page. The testimonials will serve to support a prospect’s buying decision. You can also use them in your newsletter and in email communications.


Consider also creating a separate page on your website with testimonials. Place the strongest and most compelling testimonials prominently where they’re sure to be read.

  42. Have a pinnable image on every post you publish on your blog to make it easy for others to pin your content.

  43. Make it easy for others to pin from your blog with the Pinterest Pin it button.

  44. Build your authority on your topic by filling your boards with relevant content.

  45. Engage with other pinners by commenting on their pins you find interesting.

  46. Create images and content that engages and inspires your followers. These are more likely to get shared.

  47. Create a viral graphic at least once a week to pin on Pinterest. This can be as simple as an image with a quote.

  48. There are two places on each pin to add a link to your landing page, in the description and in the source for the pin.

  49. Use a Pinterest for a business account. It gives you the benefit of analytics and Rich Pins.

  50. Create specialty boards. For instance, have a tips board that only has tips or a board for seasonal pins.

The Dirty Dozen are Looking For You

As we move into the 2016 Income Tax Season, scammers are moving into full swing to see what they can siphon off by hook or crook.  Team Legacy provides these reprints from its feed of the IRS Tax Tips and  passes them  along in hopes that its readers will not fall prey to these criminals. 

Here is the latest from Issue SETT 2016-03. 


 Each year, people fall prey to tax scams. That’s why the IRS sends a list of its annual “Dirty Dozen.” Stay safe and be informed – don’t become a victim.


If you get involved in illegal tax scams, you can lose money or face stiff penalties, interest, and even criminal prosecution. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Be on the lookout for these scams:


Identity theft.Identity theft, especially around tax time, is at the top of the “Dirty Dozen” list again this year. The IRS continues to aggressively pursue criminals who file fraudulent returns using someone else’s Social Security number. The IRS is making progress on this front. Remain vigilant to avoid becoming a victim.


Telephone scams. Threatening phone calls by criminals impersonating IRS agents remain an ongoing threat. The IRS has seen a surge of these phone scams in recent years as scam artists threaten taxpayers with police arrest, deportation, license revocation and more. These con artists often demand payment of back taxes on a prepaid debit card or by immediate wire transfer. Be alert to con artists impersonating IRS agents and demanding payment.


Phishing. Phishing scams typically use unsolicited emails or fake websites that appear legitimate but are attempting to steal your personal information. The IRS will not send you an email about a bill or tax refund out of the blue. Don’t click on strange emails and websites that may be scams to steal your personal information.


Return Preparer Fraud.
About 60 percent of taxpayers use tax professionals to prepare their returns. While most tax professionals provide honest, high-quality service, there are some dishonest ones who set up shop each filing season to perpetrate refund fraud, identity theft and other scams. Offshore Tax Avoidance.
Hiding money and income offshore is a bad bet. If you have money in offshore banks, it’s best to contact the IRS to get your taxes in order.

The IRS offers the Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program to help you do that.


Inflated Refund Claims.
Be on the lookout for anyone promising inflated tax refunds. Also be wary of anyone who asks you to sign a blank return, promises a big refund before looking at your tax records or charges fees based on a percentage of the refund. Scam artists use flyers, advertisements, phony store fronts and word of mouth via trusted community groups to find victims.


Fake Charities.
Be on guard against groups masquerading as charitable organizations to attract donations from unsuspecting contributors. If you are making a charitable contribution, you should take a few extra minutes to ensure your hard-earned money goes to legitimate and currently eligible charities. IRS.gov has the tools you need to check out the status of charitable organizations. Be wary of charities with names that are similar to familiar or nationally known organizations.


Falsely Padding Deductions on Returns.
Don’t give in to the temptation to inflate deductions or expenses on your tax return. Think twice before overstating deductions such as charitable contributions, inflating claimed business expenses or including credits that you are not entitled to receive, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit. Complete an accurate return.


Excessive Claims for Business Credits.
Don’t make improper claims for fuel tax credits. The credit is generally limited to off-highway business use, including use in farming. It is generally not available to most taxpayers. Also, avoid misuse of the research credit. If it doesn’t apply to your business and you don’t meet the criteria, don’t make the claim.


Falsifying Income to Claim Credits.
Don’t invent income to erroneously claim tax credits. A scam artist may try to talk you into doing this. You should file the most accurate tax return possible because you are legally responsible for what is on your return. Falling prey to this scam may mean you have to pay back taxes, interest, and penalties. In some cases, you may even face criminal prosecution.


Abusive Tax Shelters.
Avoid using abusive tax structures to avoid paying taxes. The IRS is committed to stopping complex tax avoidance schemes and the people who create and sell them. Be on the lookout for people peddling tax shelters that sound too good to be true. When in doubt, seek an independent opinion regarding these complex situations or offers. Most taxpayers pay their fair share, and so should you.


Frivolous Tax Arguments.
Using frivolous tax arguments to avoid paying taxes can have serious financial consequences. Promoters of frivolous schemes encourage taxpayers to make unreasonable and outlandish claims to avoid paying taxes. The law is crystal clear that people must pay their taxes. For decades, the federal courts have consistently upheld the tax laws. The penalty for filing a frivolous tax return is $5,000.


Tax scams can take many forms beyond the “Dirty Dozen.” The best defense is to remain alert. Additional information about tax scams is available on IRS social media sites, including YouTube and Tumblr , where people can search “scam” to find all the scam-related posts.

Saturday evening you attend a cocktail party with your wife and your friends ask where you have been keeping yourself.

You explain that you have found a great online company that you have joined and have been studying to get it set up during the evenings and on weekends.

You explain that the outlook looks promising because their compensation plan is great. And given enough time and effort, this looks like the plan that could allow for the financial freedom to quit your 9 to 5 and work for yourself from home.

You begin explaining that it is a multi-level marketing plan, and the reaction is instantaneous.

“Oh, I see, it’s one of those pyramid schemes”, your friend remarks. “Be careful, you know those things are illegal”.  “Felix, I thought you had more sense”.

Now you don’t feel so good… no one likes the ridicule of their “friends”.





Education is a wonderful thing because it liberates us from the ignorance that often times forms public opinion.


In the Game of Thrones,  the only weapon that Tyrion Lannister (played by Peter Dinklage) has is his intellect. Due to his “Halfman” size, he relies heavily on his education and cunning mind.


And because of his knowledge, I predict that Tyrion will greatly impact the outcome of who finally sits on the Iron Throne to rule the 7 kingdoms and wins the Game of Thrones.

And so it should be with you. To win the Game of Thrones and obtain your financial freedom, you only need to be firm in your purpose. And one of the ways to obtain a firm purpose is to shun the ignorance of public opinion through education.
In other words, Know what you are doing.

But working at home is not a vacation, it requires discipline. In this article, we address the effort needed to establish ground rules for working at home. And for those who are just getting started, some activities to avoid and rules to review a new venture. Enjoy!


Setting the Tone


Staying at home with your little ones rather than packing them off to daycare and rushing to a job out in the brick-and-mortar world five days a week sounds like a dream come true, doesn’t it?


Your kids would benefit from your presence in their lives, and the whole “make a living” thing would be so much easier if you could accomplish it from home!


Just think — no dressing up, no putting on makeup, no fighting rush hour traffic twice a day — what is there about being a stay-at-home mom and working online that isn’t to like?


Actually, there’s nothing not to like after you once get yourself, your kids, your hubby, your mom, and your girlfriends convinced that you do actually HAVE a job even if you don’t get dressed and leave home. It’s a funny thing, but it’s true.


Everybody (including YOU) will assume that your time is your own at first.


When the kids want your attention, you’ll give it to them. When your mom asks you to run an errand for her, you will. When your girlfriends call you on the phone, you’ll talk for an hour.


And while you are showering your kids with attention, making your mom happy, and catching up on all the latest gossip, you aren’t getting the work done whether you are an entrepreneur or have contracted out your services.


Being a stay-at-home mom with any kind of job requires, as previously mentioned, self-discipline as well as a set of do-not-disturb-during-working-hours rules that apply to your kids, your mom, your hubby, and your girlfriends.


Remember, even if you are working from home, you are still working.


It takes time and some serious effort to convince yourself and all of the other people in your world that you really DO have a job and that you are just as obligated to that job as you would be if you were working in an office in the city. But once you do, the rewards and benefits can be immense!



 So the world of work-at-home appeals to you either by choice or by necessity.

The question now is what type of work is out there?

Basically, there are only two ways to go: Contracting services(working for someone) or working for yourself.

Avoiding the Work-at-Home Tricksters


The world is full of scam artists trying to make a buck by hook or by crook in both categories of employment.


The fact that you work hard for your money or the fact that you have very little to spare and desperately need to get your own online business or online activity making money for you won’t matter a bit to these jerks.


So you have to know what to look for to avoid letting these tricksters rip you off.


One “job” that is advertised online is envelope stuffing. There are not jobs for envelope stuffers.


Machines stuff envelopes today.


They also generate mailing labels. If you were to apply for an envelope-stuffing job, the first item that you’d be required to do is “buy” some equipment or a mailing list or something else.


The only profit to be had from envelope stuffing is by the advertiser, and he’s making his profit by selling useless “stuff” to you and others.


Another scam that is common on the Internet is home assembly.


According to the advertisements, all you have to do to make a ton of money is to assemble some simple little craft items at home. You just mail them in and you’ll get a check by return mail. I’m not saying that every single home assembly job offer is a scam.


There may be a legit one out there. But if you are told that you must BUY the pieces to assemble, RUN!


The business doesn’t sell assembled products. The business sells pieces to people who want a job. You will never get paid. Your products won’t “pass inspection” even if they’re perfect.

 There are many, many more scams out there just waiting to take your money. So let me give you some quick rules of thumb:

a. research the product or the job thoroughly – know what you are getting into- research online and talk with others who use the product- review current  testimonials-ask yourself if the company is well-established.

b. look for low-cost or FREE trial periods that allow you to “test” the product  before a large commitment

c. check the company’s refund policy and READ its disclaimer statement

d. read and understand the company’s income disclosure 

e. beware of get-rich-quick claims – all businesses require substantial work

f. don’t invest money you cannot afford to lose 



 Remember, the idea of working from home is for somebody to send money TO you; it isn’t for you to send money to someone else. If an online job requires any kind of large financial investment from you without substantial product, the odds are that it’s a scam.
